I removed all 3 cables to the cdrom, booted up into safe mode, removed ATAPI 48XCDROM I could only find it in safe mode , shut down, started in normal mode, shut down, connected all cables to cdrom, boot up and NO cdrom anywhere, did not detect new hardware, but I still get the “device driver not found, bla bla bla as mentioned before. Boot to safe mode, go to device manager and remove cd rom drive if it is present there.

Too bad he didn’t have the cab files on the hard drive. MSCD and the config.
Try getting or making a new one. They have several to choose from and I’m not sure if I’ve downloaded the correct one.

I did a clean install on a old ComputerTec system with a memorex 48x CDrom. When the only tool you own is a hammer, every problem begins to resemble a nail.

Mscd001 “FILE NOT FOUND”
Still nothing, except I now get the error message that I may have a problem with the cd-rom. Tried to start with cdrom support and I get device driver not found: I stopped all 3 items in autoexec. Sign In Sign Up. Your name or email address: What do I say? I assume that you are starting from a W98 startup floppy. Which I have now copied onto c:.

So if you can help me, could you speak in easy computerese? Or try a different floppy in case that one has a bad sector or something. Is it connected properly – cable on right??
